II Corinthians 10:4-5

II Corinthians 10:4-5,  (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)  5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

INTRODUCTION

As believers, we are called to a lifestyle of obedience!  Already, we have considered some causes of disobedience. A lack of true relationship with Christ lends itself to disobedience and idolatry also creates disobedience in our lives. Let’s continue our study into His Word as it relates to the causes of disobedience.

I.         DISOBEDIENCE…REBELLION

A.  Rebellion and Disobedience.

                                    1.  Rebellion.  I Samuel 12:15, Nehemiah 9:26, Romans 10:21  

                       a.       Stiff-Necked.  Exodus 32:9, Deuteronomy 31:27, 

Jeremiah 17:3, Ezekiel 2:4 

II.        DISOBEDIENCE…EVIL IMAGINATIONS

 A.  Evil Imaginations.

                                    1.  Twisted Hearts.  Jeremiah 11:7-8 

                                          a.      Stubborn Hearts.  Psalm 81:12, Jeremiah 16:12, 

Jeremiah 18:11-12  

III.      DISOBEDIENCE…FEAR

                   A.  Fear and Disobedience.

                                    1.  Obedience?  Judges 6:10 

B.  Fear Is Disobedience.

                                    1.  The Command.  Isaiah 54:14-15, Isaiah 54:17, Luke 12:32, 

      Romans 8:15, II Timothy 1:7, Psalm 91, John 14:27, 

      Proverbs 3:25-26, Psalm 112:7-8  

                   C.  Fear Is Devastating.

                                    1.  The Damage of Fear.  Job 3:25

                                                      a.  Fear and Seizing - Psalm 48:6  

                                                      b.  Fear and Storms - Proverbs 1:27 

c.  Fear and Snares - Proverbs 29:25 [snare = a noose, a hook

      (for the nose), trap.]  

                                                      d.  Fear and Shuddering - I Samuel 28:5  [trembled = to shudder 

      in terror, to hasten with anxiety.]  

                                                      e.  Fear and Scaring.  Jeremiah 26:21 [fled = to flee suddenly, 

      be chased away, run away.]

                   D.  Fear Is Deception.

                                    1.  Fear Distorts.  Psalm 53:5, Matthew 14:26-27

                    E.  Fear Is Defeated.

                                    1.  Obedience.  Proverbs 1:33  [hearkens = to hear intelligently, with

      the implication of obedience.]

                                                      a.  Obeying.  I John 4:18, I John 2:5, I John 4:12

CONCLUSION 

            Proverbs 1:17 NIV, How useless to spread a net in full view of all the birds!  If   we understand and recognize the causes of disobedience…we can avoid                them and choose to obey Him!
