II Corinthians 10:4-5
II Corinthians 10:4-5, (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
INTRODUCTION
A recurring theme throughout the Scripture is the priority of obedience. It is demanded by God and serves as a pivotal behavior in our faith. An “All In” life before the Lord is a life of obedience to Him.
Acts 5:29…"We must obey God rather than men! Obedience to Him is critical to our growth and development as believers.
Obedience defined…
Hebrew [to hear, listen, obey]
Greek [to listen under; obey]
Old English [herknen (hearken); both hear and obey]
Disobedience serves to sabotage our faith and create obstacles in our pursuit of His promises. The Bible reveals the reasons why disobedience comes…let’s consider the causes of disobedience.
I. DISOBEDIENCE…LACK OF RELATIONSHIP
A. Separation From The Son.
1. No Relationship. Exodus 5:2, Titus 1:16, Acts 7:51
a. Knowing Him…Jeremiah 9:23-24, Philippians 3:7-10
b. Knowing Him…Stages of Growth. I John 2:12-14
1) Stages Of Spiritual Maturity.
The Child Stage - Knowing your sins are forgiven
The Youth Stage - Knowing a sense of victory in your
life as a Christian
Full Spiritual Maturity - Knowing God. (Him that is
from the beginning)] (Daniel 11:32)
B. Surrender To Sin.
1. Sin and Disobedience. Romans 6:12, Romans 6:16, Romans 2:8
II. DISOBEDIENCE…IDOLATRY
A. Idolatry…Breeding Disobedience.
1. Disobedience. Deuteronomy 11:28, Judges 2:2, Judges 2:17,
Jeremiah 13:10
a. Idolatry. Isaiah 42:17, Isaiah 44:20
1) Colossians 3:5…greed, which is idolatry.
[Greed = covetous, materialism, stingy, selfish]
2) I Corinthians 10:14…flee from idolatry.
[Flee = run away, escape]
III. DISOBEDIENCE…REBELLION
A. Rebellion and Disobedience.
1. Rebellion. I Samuel 12:15, Nehemiah 9:26, Romans 10:21
a. Stiff-Necked. Exodus 32:9, Deuteronomy 31:27,
Jeremiah 17:3, Ezekiel 2:4
IV. DISOBEDIENCE…EVIL IMAGINATIONS
A. Evil Imaginations.
1. Twisted Hearts. Jeremiah 11:7-8
a. Stubborn Hearts. Psalm 81:12, Jeremiah 9:14,
Jeremiah 16:12, Jeremiah 18:11-12
CONCLUSION
We must surrender our hearts to obedience!
