GENERATIONAL LEGACY

INTRODUCTION

A generational legacy refers to the values, beliefs, traditions, and even material possessions being passed down from one generation to the next. It encompasses the enduring impact that past generations have on the present and future, shaping family identity, culture, and even societal structures. Essentially, it’s the inheritance – both tangible and intangible – that connects past, present and future family members. Here we will dive into what that looks like from a spiritual perspective as well as the rest.

KEYS

1.    Values & Beliefs – core principles/beliefs that are instilled and reinforced across generations. (Deut 6:6-9. Deut 4:7-9, Prov. 22:6, Judges 2:10)

2.    Traditions & Cultures – specific customs and stories that are passed down, defining a family’s uniqueness. (Josh 4:5-7, 4:21-24)

3.    Emotional & Behavioral Patterns – the ways families interact, communicate, and handle challenges. (Gen 3, Gen 4:8, Prov 13:24, Luke 15:11-32, Eph 6:4, Heb 12:6)

4.    Influence on Identity & Purpose – a strong legacy can provide a sense of belonging, direction, and purpose for future generations. (Gen 2:18, Gen 17:7, Gen 26:24, Lev 11:44, Lev 18:3-5, Ex 9:16)
