Today and next week, Wednesday's Word is moving to Thursday! We want to bring you this special series right away straight from the sanctuary of Princeton Pike Church! Regular Wednesday podcasts will resume March 26.

TREASURE PRINCIPLE

Getting started

Week 2

TREASURE PRINCIPLE #4: I should live not for the dot but for the line, Matthew 6:19-20

TITHING: The training wheels of giving

1.     WHERE AND HOW DO WE START GIVING?

Going back to the Old Testament, there are many passages that teach the giving of

first fruits and tithing: Exodus 22:29, Nehemiah 13:12, Numbers 18:12,24,

Leviticus 27:30.

2.     WHAT EXACTLY DOES TITHING MEAN?

The meaning of the word tithe is “a tenth part.”

Our creator warned us that anything less was to rob God. (Malachi 3:8)

3.     ISN’T TITHING LEGALISM?

Other things that can be viewed as legalism: church attendance, Bible reading,

and prayer.

4.     WHAT IF WE CAN’T AFFORD TO TITHE?

Can you really not afford to get by on 10% percent less? (Philippians 4:19)

It all comes down to priorities. (Haggai 1:9)

5.     SHOULD WE TITHE ON OUR GROSS OR NET INCOME?

If God blesses based on what we give, then we should ask ourselves what we

want to be blessed on-the gross or the net. (Malachi 3:10, Luke 6:38)

THE OTHER 2 ASPECTS OF GIVING: OUR TIME AND OUR TALENT.

Five minutes after we die: what could I have done differently and what will our obituary say.

Questions to ponder between now and next week:

1.     Lord, in Your word, You make a direct connection between experiencing grace and

expressing grace through giving. So does the degree of my giving suggest that I

have recognized and embraced Your grace?

2.     Lord, will I rob myself of joy and reward, and rob You of my trust by holding on to

significant assets I could have joyfully given to You?

3.     Lord, please help me to see clearly where to best give Your money. Help me to be

not only a generous giver but a wise one.

4.     Jesus, why have you entrusted me with greater financial blessings than I once had?

Is it to raise my standard of giving?

TREASURE PRINCIPLE #6: God prospers me not to raise my standard of living but to raise

my standard of giving.
