The Tongue Part 5

“His Word Spoken” Part 1

Hebrews 3:1

Hebrews 3:1,  Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus...

INTRODUCTION

As we continue to study the Biblical view of our use of the tongue, let us               consider a principle that we find in Scripture.

I.         SPEAKING THE WORD

                   A.  Profession/Confession.

1.  Speaking. [Homologia  (hom-oo’ = together, the same. logos = something

said, Divine Expression, doctrine, mouth, preaching) = agree with,

covenant, confession is made, to say the same thing as another]

                   B.  Professing His Word.

                                    1.  Speaking Bible. II Samuel 23:2, The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me,

And His word was on my tongue.

Psalm 119:172, My tongue shall speak of  Your word, For all Your

      commandments are righteousness.

                                                      a.  Speak Truth. Proverbs 8:7, For my mouth will speak truth…

                                                      b.  Speak Wisdom. Proverbs 10:31, The mouth of the righteous brings

forth wisdom; Psalm 37:30, The mouth of the righteous speaks

wisdom, And his tongue talks of justice.

                                                      c.  Speak Justice. Proverbs 31:9, Open your mouth, judge

righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

II.        CONFESSING THE WORD

            A.  The Obedient Confession.

II Corinthians 9:13, while, through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God for

The obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal

Sharing with them and all men,

                                    1.  Speaking the Same as the Gospel!

                                                      a.  Obedience. [subjection, subordination, the act of subjecting,

      obedience]

                                                      b.  Confession. [agree with, covenant, confession is made, to say the

      same thing as another]

                                                                        1)  To the Gospel.

                   B.  The Good Confession.

                                    1.  The Fight. I Timothy 6:12, Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal

life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good

confession in the presence of many witnesses.

a.        The Fight. [to contend with adversaries, to struggle for a prize,

labor fervently]

                                                                        1)  The Fight of Faith. James 1:2-7

                                                      b.  The Prize. Eternal Life!

                                                                        1)  Lay Hold Of. [take possession of, to seize]

                                                                        2)  Eternal Life. [without end, perpetual, never to cease…zoe]

We are called to eternal life!

c.        The Profession. [agree with, covenant, confession is made, to say

 the same thing as another]

1)        A Good Profession. [what one professes,

acknowledgement]

                                                      d.  The Presence of Others…Many Witnesses.

                                    2.  Fight…Like Jesus! I Timothy 6:13, I urge you in the sight of God who gives

life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good

     confession before Pontius Pilate,

a.        A  Command. I urge you…[to transmit a message, give a

command, order]

                                                      b.  A Witness. …in the sight of God [in the presence of]

                                                                        1)  The Life Giver.

                                                      c.  A Model. …who witnessed…[to not hold back testimony, testify,

witness, to affirm that one has seen or heard or experienced

      something]

d.       A Confession. …a good confession…[agree with, covenant,

confession is made, to say the same thing as another] (before Pilate)

                   C.  The Apostle and High Priest of Our Confession.

Hebrews 3:1, Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling,

consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus…

1.        Consider. [to observe fully, discover, understand, to fix one’s eyes or

mind upon]

a.        The Apostle. [a delegate, an ambassador of the Gospel, one sent

with orders, he that is sent, the twelve]  He is the sent one…representing God to man.

b.       The High Priest. As the High Priest He represents humanity before God…offering Himself as the ultimate sacrifice.

***Jesus is the perfect bridge between God and Man***

                   D.  The Holding Fast Our Confession.

                                    1.  Hold Fast…The Good Confession. Hebrews 4:14, Seeing then that we

have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens [to walk

traverse, journey], Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

                                                      a.  Hold Fast. [be powerful, to use strength, to keep]

                                                      b.  Hold Fast…The Confession. [agree with, covenant, confession is

made, to say the same thing as another]

2.        The Holding Fast…The Confession of Hope. Hebrews 10:23,  Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

a.        The Confession. [agree with, covenant, confession is made, to say the same thing as another]

b.       The Confession…Of Hope. [expectation, to anticipate with

 pleasure]

1)        Without Wavering. [to be unmoved, not leaning…to be

 firm]

                                                      c.  The Confirmation.

                                                                        1)  He Promised. [to promise, engage, to do or furnish

                                                                 something]

                                                                        2)  He’s Faithful. [can be relied on, trustworthy, proved faithful]

CONCLUSION

Let us “speak” in agreement with Him!
